Suntrade’s unique concept offers tenants more affordable and greener electricity

With its unique business model of leasing rooftops on industrial properties and installing solar power systems, Suntrade offers tenants both more affordable and greener electricity. Despite the projects´ long lifespan of 25 years, the company faced challenges securing financing through its bank and therefore found Krea instead.

Suntrade Ltd. has been operating for just 2.5 years, yet has already managed to stand out from its competitors with a unique business concept. Unlike many others in the industry, the company owns all of its installations.

We have a unique business model where we lease rooftops on industrial properties, install our own solar power systems and supply tenants with more affordable, greener energy.

However, as a relatively new company, they experienced difficulties securing financing through traditional large banks. According to Lars Ericson, major banks are often not interested in companies like theirs.

- We´re still a relatively young company, we´ve been operating for about 2.5 years and have had limited revenue so far. Large banks are simply not interested in customers like us, says Lars Ericson.

Needed financing for a new investment

Suntrade needed to purchase additional solar panels to expand its operations. To make this possible, the company turned to Krea, where the experience was entirely different and very positive.

- The process was very smooth and from the start Krea understood our setup, unlike larger banks which often focus on issues that aren’t relevant at such an early stage. Krea was attentive and quickly grasped our business model, even though its something entirely new, says Lars Ericson

For Suntrade, it was important that the financing solution reflected the projects lifespan. This is exactly what they received when Krea structured the deal through a favorable leasing agreement.

- We approached it with an open mind. What mattered most was having a financial solution that matched the project´s profitability and lifespan, whether through leasing or a business loan. Given the long lifespan of the project, leasing turned out to be the most practical option, concludes Lars Ericson.
